Trimbach Pinot Gris Réserve 375ml 2020

Trimbach Pinot Gris Réserve is a broad but dry styled Alsace Pinot Gris from the long established house at Ribeauvillé.

Pinot Gris in Alsace gives a naturally weightier wine than Riesling, with lower acidity and more flesh, and it is often left with noticeable residual sugar elsewhere in the region. Trimbach, working from Ribeauvillé since 1626, takes the opposite view and pushes its Réserve bottling close to dryness so that the weight comes from ripeness and texture rather than sugar. Fruit is drawn from the family's own parcels and from growers on the marl and limestone slopes around the town, whole bunch pressed and fermented in neutral tank without malolactic conversion or new oak. A period of ageing before release settles the wine and gives it its characteristic smoky, savoury cast.

Fuller and rounder than the house Riesling but still savoury, it suits roast pork, smoked fish, mushroom dishes and softer cheeses; serve at ten to twelve degrees.
