Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile 2019

Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile is the family's flagship dry Riesling, released only after several years of cellar ageing at Ribeauvillé.

Frédéric Emile is assembled from Trimbach holdings in the Geisberg and Osterberg, the two grand crus that sit on the steep hillside immediately above the house, where marl, limestone and sandstone give Riesling both power and a hard mineral core. The house has bottled the wine under its cuvée name rather than the cru names for generations. Winemaking is unchanged and deliberately neutral: whole-bunch pressing, a slow fermentation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation, no oak, then lees ageing and a long rest in bottle before the wine leaves the cellar. Residual sugar of 1.3 grams per litre puts it among the driest wines in the range.

Tight and chalky in youth and built for a decade or more, it suits turbot, scallops and smoked eel; serve at 11 to 12 degrees.
