Description
Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile is the house's flagship dry Riesling, drawn from vineyards that fall inside the Osterberg and Geisberg grand crus.
The two sites sit on the steep hillside immediately above Ribeauvillé, Osterberg on heavier marl and Geisberg on lighter sandstone and limestone, and Trimbach has long declined to use the grand cru names, bottling the fruit instead under the name of Frédéric Emile Trimbach, who built the family's reputation in the nineteenth century. The wine is whole bunch pressed, fermented dry in neutral tank with no malolactic conversion and no oak influence, then held at the domaine for around five years before it is released, which is why current bottlings are always several years old. This is a mature half bottle from a cool, classically structured season.
Dry, mineral and built for the table rather than the glass alone, it suits scallops, poached chicken, veal and mature cheeses; serve at ten to twelve degrees.
