Trimbach Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru 2022

Trimbach Riesling Schlossberg comes from the terraced granite slope below the castle at Kaysersberg, the first site in Alsace to be granted grand cru status.

Schlossberg was classified in 1975, ahead of every other Alsace grand cru, and covers a long stretch of steep, dry-stone terraces above Kientzheim and Kaysersberg. The soil is a poor, sandy granite that warms quickly and offers the vine very little reserve, which tends to produce Rieslings that are high toned, linear and unusually persistent rather than broad. Trimbach's approach is unchanged from its village wines: whole-bunch pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation and no wood, then extended lees ageing and bottle rest before release. Residual sugar of 6.3 grams per litre leaves the wine dry, with the granite's tension carrying the finish.

Linear, dry and long, it suits oysters, sole and delicate river fish; serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
