Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Rosso 2022

Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Rosso is a Sangiovese from Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, made by an estate otherwise known for French varieties.

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti at Notri, near Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, when the Maremma was still farming country rather than fine wine country. Perlato del Bosco takes its name from a marble quarried in the hills behind Suvereto, a stone used in churches and palaces across Tuscany. The wine is the estate's Sangiovese, which makes it the most recognisably Tuscan thing in the cellar, grown on the same coastal soils as the Cabernet and Merlot but at some distance from Sangiovese's inland heartland in Chianti and Montalcino. It is matured in oak and made in a style meant to be drunk sooner than the estate's grander bottlings.

Serve at about 17 degrees with pasta in a tomato or ragu sauce, grilled meat, salumi or hard sheep's cheese.
