Tua Rita Redigaffi 2023

Tua Rita Redigaffi is a single vineyard Merlot from Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, and one of the wines that made the reputation of the Italian Merlot.

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti at Notri, near Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, when the Maremma was still farming country rather than fine wine country. Redigaffi, first made in the mid 1990s, is bottled from Merlot alone and is produced in very small quantity from a single parcel on gravel and clay soils not far from the sea. Its early releases attracted extraordinary attention and turned a young family estate into one of the most sought after names in Italy almost overnight. The wine is matured in new French oak barriques. Like most of the important wines of this coast it is labelled under the broad Toscana IGT rather than a narrow appellation.

Decant an hour or two ahead and serve at about 18 degrees with roast beef, lamb, duck or aged cheese; it will cellar for well over a decade.
