Tyrrell's Old Hillside Shiraz 2023

Tyrrell's Old Hillside Shiraz comes from a Pokolbin block planted on the red volcanic soils above the valley floor.

Most Hunter Shiraz grows on sandy alluvial flats; the hillside blocks with their red clay over basalt give a firmer, more structured wine, and Tyrrell's bottles them separately for that reason. The family has farmed here since 1858. Fruit is fermented in open vats with the traditional Hunter approach and matured in large old oak casks rather than small new barrels.

Serve at 17 degrees with braised beef, lamb shoulder or hard cheese. It rewards fifteen years.
