Description
Tyrrell's Vat 47 is the Hunter Valley Chardonnay that began the variety's modern Australian history.
Murray Tyrrell planted Chardonnay at Pokolbin in 1968 and released the first Vat 47 in 1971, the first commercial Australian Chardonnay. The Hunter is an unlikely home for the grape, humid and picked early, and that is part of why the wine ages the way it does. Fruit comes from the estate's oldest Chardonnay blocks and the wine is fermented and matured in French oak.
Serve at 12 degrees with white fish, roast chicken or a creamy pasta. It rewards ten years in the cellar.
