Valli Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Valli Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir is a savoury, fine-boned single-vineyard Pinot from one of Central Otago's warmest corners.

Valli was established by Grant Taylor, one of the pioneering winemakers of Central Otago, and is now run together with winemaker Jen Parr. The idea is simple: make Pinot Noir from individual vineyards in different subregions and let each site speak. Bannockburn sits on the southern side of the Kawarau arm of Lake Dunstan near Cromwell, a dry, sheltered and warm pocket where old gold-mining country gives way to vines. The 2022 is bright garnet, with dried florals, wild thyme, wild mushroom, cherry, raspberry and new leather, and fine tannins that build alongside fresh acidity.

Taut at release, this will reward patience, and the winemaker expects it to keep evolving for around 15 years. When you open it, serve at around 15 to 17 degrees with slow-roasted duck, venison or a wild mushroom tart.
