Valli Vineyards Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

Valli Vineyards Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir is a perfumed, finely structured Pinot from Valli's estate in Gibbston.

Gibbston, set in the steep Kawarau Gorge east of Queenstown, is the coolest and highest of Central Otago's main subregions, and a long, slow ripening season gives Pinot Noir intense perfume and fine tannin. It is where the Valli story began under Grant Taylor, and the wine is now made with Jen Parr. The 2023 is bright garnet, with wild thyme, rosemary, fennel and mushroom alongside dark cherry, ripe strawberry and dried rose petals. The palate is layered and compact, with a purposeful flow the winemakers liken to an alpine river in spring.

Pour at around 16 degrees. Lamb rack with herbs, roast pork or salmon with a soy glaze all work well, and it has the balance to age gracefully for 20 years or so.
