Valli Vineyards Waitaki Pinot Gris 2024

Valli Vineyards Waitaki Pinot Gris is a textured, steely Pinot Gris from the limestone country of North Otago.

The Waitaki Valley in North Otago is one of New Zealand's coolest and most marginal wine regions, with limestone-rich soils that are rare in this country. Valli has a vineyard there, drawn by the potential for wines of intensity and tension. Grant Taylor founded Valli as a single-vineyard specialist, and the wines are now made together with Jen Parr. Pale gold in the glass, this Pinot Gris shows lemon zest, lime, nashi pear, sweet basil and sea salt, with crunchy pear, citrus and green apple on a complex, finely textured palate carried by steely acidity.

Serve chilled, around 8 to 10 degrees. It comes alive with food: try it with pork dumplings, Thai-style fish cakes, crayfish or a light curry. It also has the balance to age for several years.
