Valli Vineyards Waitaki Pinot Gris 2025

Valli Vineyards Waitaki Pinot Gris is a bright, layered white that captures the cool, limestone-driven character of the Waitaki Valley.

Following the Waitaki River, which marks the boundary between Otago and Canterbury, the Waitaki Valley is a young, cool-climate region where limestone soils and a long, slow season produce wines with a fine mineral line. Valli, the Otago winery set up by Grant Taylor and now made with Jen Parr, grows Pinot Gris here alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2025 is pale gold, with lemon zest, lime, nashi pear, basil and a sea-salt note. On the palate, tangy citrus, crunchy pear and green apple flow over a finely textured core with steely acidity.

Well chilled, it makes a fine aperitif, but it really shines at the table with scallops, Vietnamese salads, roast pork with apple or a mild Japanese curry. It should also cellar nicely.
