Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Chardonnay 2022

Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Chardonnay is a taut, satiny Chardonnay from limestone soils in North Otago's Waitaki Valley.

Limestone is rare in New Zealand vineyards, and in the Waitaki it shapes both the texture and the flow of this wine. Valli, founded by Central Otago pioneer Grant Taylor and now made with Jen Parr, farms a vineyard in this cool, marginal valley. The wine is fermented with a high level of grape solids, which adds a distinctive savoury note. The 2022 shows lemon zest, green apple, lime and hazelnut, with citrus flavours in harmony with a satiny texture and racy acidity that drives the length. Only small quantities are made.

Serve lightly chilled at around 10 to 12 degrees. It pairs well with crayfish, roast chicken with lemon and thyme, or pan-fried blue cod, and it will keep evolving for 12 years or more.
