Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Chardonnay 2023

Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Chardonnay is a fresh, finely textured Chardonnay made in small quantities from Valli's Waitaki site.

The Waitaki Valley lies north-east of Central Otago along the Waitaki River, and its limestone-rich soils give Chardonnay aromatic lift and a fine, flowing texture. Valli, the single-vineyard specialist created by Grant Taylor and continued with winemaker Jen Parr, ferments this wine in barrel with some of the grape solids included, adding a subtle savoury note. The 2023 has lemon curd, lime zest, grapefruit, hazelnut and vanilla on the nose, bright citrus and secondary flavours on the palate, and a racy acidity that gives it power and persistence.

Chill it lightly and pair with seared scallops, a creamy chicken pie or grilled snapper with beurre blanc. It is fresh at release and should develop well for 12 years or more.
