Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Valli Vineyards Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir is a lithe, fragrant Pinot Noir with the savoury, saline edge of North Otago's limestone.

The cool Waitaki Valley, with its limestone soils, produces a very different Pinot Noir from the warmer subregions of Central Otago. Valli, founded by Grant Taylor and now made with Jen Parr, sees intense fragrance, savoury undertones and electric energy as the hallmarks of this site. The 2022 is a translucent garnet, with wild strawberry, pomegranate and pomelo alongside wild thyme, cedar and gunflint. The palate brings cardamom, allspice, damson plum and tart cherry, with fine tannins, great persistence and a distinctive salty finish.

Slightly cool is ideal, around 14 to 16 degrees, to keep its freshness. Try it with seared tuna, duck breast with plum or a mushroom and gruyère tart. It will continue to develop for 15 years or more.
