Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Merlot 2024

Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Merlot is a soft, perfumed Margaret River red from the estate's Filius range.

Filius is Latin for son, and the range is the younger sibling of the estate's premium wines, made for earlier drinking. Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and Merlot fills out the middle, producing a silky, fine-grained red. The winery has been making Cabernet in Wilyabrup since the late 1960s, and that long experience shows in the balance here. Raspberry, redcurrant and rose petal perfume meet notes of sandalwood and incense, with a deep, juicy core, rosehip and raspberry tea flavours, and light, fine tannins on a long finish.

Open it at around 16 degrees with a slow-cooked beef ragù, roast pork loin or mushroom pie. It is ready to drink now and will hold for a few years.
