Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon 2024

Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon is an approachable, classically styled Margaret River Cabernet.

The name means son in Latin, a nod to its place beneath the estate's senior Cabernets. Margaret River's maritime climate, with the Indian and Southern Oceans on two sides, gives Cabernet the dried-leaf, savoury character it is known for alongside ripe dark fruit. Warmth in the 2024 season brought generous blackberry and cherry notes, balanced by wet stone and leafy tones, a fine, soft palate built on fresh acidity, and long, dusty tannins. It is the kind of wine that shows why this Wilyabrup winery, founded in 1967, has long been a benchmark for the grape in Western Australia.

Give it a quick decant and serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Barbecued lamb chops, a beef and red wine pie or hard cheeses make good partners.
