Vasse Felix Tom Cullity Cabernet Malbec 2021

Vasse Felix Tom Cullity Cabernet Malbec is the estate's flagship red, named for the man who planted Margaret River's first commercial vineyard.

Dr Tom Cullity, a Perth doctor, established the estate at Wilyabrup in 1967, and this wine honours his legacy. It is built from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon on the estate, with Malbec adding perfume and plushness, and is matured in French oak and released only after extended time in barrel and bottle. The 2021 shows a ruby-garnet colour with a hint of brick, and a tight, layered perfume of boysenberry, blue plum and orange peel with lavender and potpourri. A velvety texture sits over a fine-boned structure, and the finish lingers with white pepper, cedar and wet stone.

Decant for an hour or two and serve at around 17 degrees. Pair it with a standing rib roast, slow-braised lamb shanks or an aged Comté. It has the structure to cellar for many years.
