Verget du Sud Vin de France Au Fil du Temps Rouge NV

Verget du Sud Au Fil du Temps Rouge is a Vin de France red blended solera-style across several vintages rather than made from a single year.

Jean-Marie Guffens built his reputation with Verget in the Mâconnais, but this wine comes from his southern base at Château des Tourettes in the Luberon. Au fil du temps translates loosely as as time goes by, and the name describes the method: successive vintages are blended in solera fashion, the idea being that a southern red made this way is both more complex and readier to drink than any single year would be. The blend is Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache grown in the Côtes du Luberon, given a light hand in the cellar so that the fruit stays fragrant and the tannins supple. Alcohol sits below 13.5 per cent, unusual for the region and central to the wine's cool, bistro-red character.

For drinking now over the next two years. Serve at 15-16°C with saucisson, a lamb daube or grilled vegetables with tapenade.
