Description
Verget's Mâcon-Pierreclos En Tremblay comes from a stony clay plateau at the highest point of the village, made this year from old vines only.
Pierreclos sits in the hills west of Mâcon, and En Tremblay is a lieu-dit on the clay plateau above the village, carpeted with the small stones the locals call pierrailles. Verget is Jean-Marie Guffens's négociant house, buying fruit and working it in much the same way as at his own domaine, and Mâcon-Pierreclos has long been one of its stronger sources. Only the old vines were selected this year, and the wine was raised with 20 per cent new wood, a light touch at this level. The style is juicy and comparatively forward, with quince and vine peach over a core of crunchy fruit and flecks of baking spice, closing long, tangy and fine. Guffens prefers this vintage to the 2021, noting a pleasant degree of reduction and an almost tannic structure that should serve it well at the table.
Drink over the next four or five years. Serve with roast pork, grilled chicken or a mushroom omelette at 10–12°C.
