Verget Mâcon-Pierreclos En Tremblay 2023

Verget Mâcon-Pierreclos En Tremblay comes from the highest ground in the village, a clay plateau carpeted in the small stones the locals call pierrailles.

Pierreclos is one of the Mâconnais villages entitled to append its name to the Mâcon appellation, lying west of Cluny in the hills below the rock of Vergisson. Verget is the négociant house founded by Jean-Marie Guffens, buying fruit and juice across the Mâconnais and the Côte de Beaune and vinifying it at Sologny. En Tremblay is a lieu-dit at the top of the village, where the plateau's clay is broken up by the stones that give it its reputation for tension. Only the old vines were selected for this bottling, and vinification included 20 per cent new wood, enough to build texture around a wine that is juicy and comparatively forward in style, with a core of crunchy fruit and a long, tangy close.

Ready on release and good for three to five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled snapper or a mushroom risotto.
