Description
Terres de Pierres is Verget's Mâcon-Villages, made almost entirely from free-run juice and raised without oak.
Mâcon-Villages covers the Chardonnay grown across the communes of the Mâconnais, a large area of argilo-calcaire soils that produce most of southern Burgundy's everyday white. The name of this cuvée means stony ground, and Verget uses it for more than one wine in the range. The blend is built around sources near Viré-Clessé and Charnay on the district's classic clay and limestone, with 20% from the shallow, stony terroirs of Pierreclos, Vergisson and Bussières to add a chalky spine. The wine is made chiefly from free-run juice, fermented and then matured four months on fine lees in horizontal stainless-steel tanks, a shape chosen to maximise contact between wine and lees, with no bâtonnage and no wood at any point.
Drink young, within two or three years, with oysters, salads or grilled fish; serve at 10–12°C.
