Verget Pouilly-Fuissé Grands Terroirs Oubliés 2022

Verget Pouilly-Fuissé Grands Terroirs Oubliés is a blend of high-altitude sites left out of the appellation's 2020 premier cru classification.

Pouilly-Fuissé, at the southern end of the Mâconnais beneath the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson, gained its first premier crus in 2020, and Jean-Marie Guffens disagreed with several of the omissions. Oubliés means forgotten, and the wine gathers fruit from La Côte and Les Croux, part of Haut de Roche in Vergisson, and Les Vernays and Sur la Fontaine in Fuissé. All sit high on the slope with western or northern exposures, which Guffens argues represent the future of Burgundy as the climate warms. Maison Verget is his négociant house, buying fruit and vinifying it in Sologny. A quarter of the juice was aged in new oak, and the wine was raised for seven months in barrel, leaving a supple palate, a lick of spice and a chalky finish.

Drinking now and good for four to six years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a pumpkin and sage tart.
