Verget Pouilly-Fuissé Terres de Pierres 2024

Verget's Terres de Pierres Pouilly-Fuissé blends free-run and press juice from a group of well-regarded Vergisson and Fuissé vineyards.

Pouilly-Fuissé is the leading appellation of the Mâconnais, and its 2020 promotion of 22 climats to Premier Cru confirmed what growers had long argued about the best slopes. Verget, the négociant house founded by Jean-Marie Guffens, buys fruit and juice across the region and bottles it under a series of cuvée names; Terres de Pierres, meaning stony ground, is used for more than one wine, so this should not be confused with the Mâcon-Villages of the same name. Les Croux, facing west, and pressed juice from the Premiers Crus Sur la Roche and Les Crays supply the cool, mineral line, while south-facing vines in Les Moulins and Les Littes add density and texture. Fermentation is natural, and the wine is raised six months in stainless steel, about 70%, and used barrels, without lees stirring.

Pleasurable now, though three or more years will show it best; serve at 10–12°C with grilled fish, poultry or soft cheeses.
