Vietti Barbera d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia comes from vines planted in the 1940s inside the Barolo zone.

Scarrone is a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto given over to Barolo for the most part, which makes a Barbera planted on it unusual: the variety is getting land normally reserved for Nebbiolo. Barbera has naturally high acidity and low tannin, and old vines in a site like this give it depth without heaviness. Vietti was among the producers who took Barbera seriously when it was still treated as an everyday wine. The fruit is fermented with native yeast and matured in French oak barriques.

Serve at 16 degrees with rich pasta, veal or roast pork. It drinks well now and holds for a decade.
