Vieux Château Certan Pomerol 2015

Vieux Château Certan is one of Pomerol's oldest and most celebrated estates, producing refined, ageworthy red Bordeaux from the heart of the appellation.

Pomerol is a small, gravel- and clay-rich plateau on the right bank of the Dordogne, prized for Merlot-based wines of great richness and finesse. Vieux Château Certan's vineyard lies on some of the appellation's finest gravelly-clay soils, immediately neighbouring some of Pomerol's most famous names, and has been in the hands of the Belgian Thienpont family since the 1920s. Unusually for Pomerol, the blend leans on Merlot alongside a meaningful proportion of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wine a character that sets it apart from many of its neighbours.

An elegant, refined red built for long ageing, it suits fine roasted and braised meats and special occasions where a wine of real pedigree is called for.
