Description
Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Morgon 'Le Dôme' is a Gamay from Morgon, the most serious of the ten crus of Beaujolais.
Morgon lies in the north of Beaujolais, and its reputation rests on the Côte du Py, a weathered volcanic dome of decomposed schist and manganese bearing rock that growers call roche pourrie, rotten rock. Wines from the cru are among the longest lived in the region, and with a few years in bottle they take on a character the French describe with a verb of its own, morgonner. Gamay here is typically handled by semi carbonic maceration with whole bunches, the Beaujolais method, in which fermentation begins inside the intact berry, and the wine is then raised in old foudres or barrels rather than new wood.
Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15°C with charcuterie, roast pork, coq au vin or a cheese board.
