Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Morgon Lieu-Dit 'Bellevue' 2023

Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Morgon Lieu-Dit 'Bellevue' is a single site Gamay from Morgon, in the granite hills of northern Beaujolais.

Beaujolais growers have increasingly taken to bottling by lieu-dit, the named parcels that have been recognised on the ground for generations, because the differences between them are marked enough to be worth preserving. Morgon centres on the commune of Villié-Morgon, where soils shift from granite sand to the darker, iron rich schist of the Côte du Py within a very short distance, and a wine from one parcel will not resemble a wine from the next. Gamay is generally fermented by semi carbonic maceration with whole bunches and raised in old wood, an approach that keeps the emphasis on site rather than oak.

Serve lightly chilled at around 14°C with terrine, duck, roast pork or hard cheese; cru Beaujolais of this kind repays several years in the cellar.
