Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Pernard-Vergelesses 'Les Pins' Blanc 2023

Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Pernard-Vergelesses 'Les Pins' Blanc is a white Burgundy from a village tucked into a fold of hills at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune.

Pernand-Vergelesses sits in a narrow valley behind the hill of Corton, which it shares with Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix. Part of the grand cru Corton-Charlemagne falls within the commune's boundaries, and that alone tells you what the village can do with Chardonnay. The vineyards face variously east and south west and lie a little higher than most of the Côte, so the whites hold their acidity well even in warm years. Soils are limestone over marl. Village whites are usually fermented and matured in barrel with a restrained proportion of new oak, with lees work used sparingly so the site is not buried.

Serve at around 12°C with roast poultry, fish in a butter sauce or a soft washed rind cheese; it will improve over several years in bottle.
