Description
Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay 'Champs Claude' is a village Pinot Noir from the southern end of the Côte de Beaune.
Santenay is the last village of consequence on the Côte before the slope breaks up into the Maranges and the Côte d'Or comes to an end. It is known for two things: red Burgundy, and a thermal spring that made it one of the very few spa towns in the region. The geology here is complicated by a major fault, so marl and limestone appear in shifting proportions and the wines vary noticeably from one named parcel to the next, which is why growers bottle them separately. Village reds are usually destemmed, fermented in open vats with a gentle cap regime, and raised for around a year in barrel with little new oak.
Serve at around 15°C with roast duck, coq au vin, or a plate of Burgundian cheeses.
