Description
Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay 'Croix Sorine' is a village Pinot Noir from Santenay, the southernmost commune of note on the Côte de Beaune.
Santenay shares a boundary with Chassagne-Montrachet but has never carried anything like the same reputation, which has long made it one of the more sensibly priced sources of red Burgundy. The commune runs from flat ground near the plain up to steep, stony slopes above 300 metres, and the better sites sit mid slope on limestone scree where drainage is sharp and the soil is shallow. Reds dominate plantings. Growers here increasingly bottle their named lieux-dits separately rather than blending them into a single village cuvée, a practice that has done much to raise the appellation's standing over the past two decades.
Serve at around 15°C with roast pork, mushroom risotto or cured meats; drink over the next five to eight years.
