Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay Premier Cru 'Clos de Tavannes' 2023

Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay Premier Cru 'Clos de Tavannes' comes from one of the most respected vineyards in Santenay.

Clos de Tavannes sits at the northern edge of the commune, beside Les Gravières and close to the boundary with Chassagne-Montrachet, and many growers regard it as the finest site in Santenay. The ground is stony and sharply drained, which limits vigour and gives wines with more structure and a longer life than the village bottlings around them. As the name suggests it is a clos, a walled or enclosed parcel, a form of holding that dates to the monastic era when the church mapped much of the Côte d'Or. Premier cru Pinot Noir here is fermented in open vats and raised in French oak barrels.

Decant and serve at around 16 to 17°C with game, roast beef or truffled dishes; a wine of this class rewards ten years or more in the cellar.
