Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay 'Sous la Roche' Blanc is a white Burgundy from Santenay, a commune far better known for its reds.

Chardonnay is a minority planting in Santenay, which is a quirk of history as much as anything, because the commune sits on the same geological continuum as Chassagne-Montrachet immediately to the north and the limestone here is perfectly capable of good white. The lieu-dit name translates as beneath the rock, a reference to the stony ground below the outcrops that mark the upper slope. Whites in this part of the Côte de Beaune are typically pressed whole bunch, fermented in barrel, and left on their lees for the best part of a year with only a small proportion of new oak.

Serve at around 12°C with white fish, roast chicken, or a firm mountain cheese such as Comté.
