Villa Russiz Collio Merlot DOC 2022

Villa Russiz Collio Merlot DOC is a red from the Collio hills of Friuli, made from Merlot.

Villa Russiz sits at Capriva del Friuli in the Collio, the band of hills along the Slovenian border that is widely regarded as one of Italy's finest white wine districts. The estate was founded in 1868 by the French count Théodore de La Tour, who brought French grape varieties and winemaking methods to the area. It is now run as a foundation, with the proceeds of the estate supporting a children's charity. The Collio's soil, a layered marl and sandstone known locally as ponca, is the defining feature of its wines. Merlot has been grown in Friuli since the nineteenth century and is the region's most widely planted red grape.

It suits roast and grilled meats, pasta with ragù and semi-hard cheeses; serve at around 17 degrees.
