Viña Ventisquero Obliqua Carménère 2022

Viña Ventisquero Obliqua Carménère is a high-altitude Carménère from steep hillside vineyards in Chile's Apalta.

Apalta is a horseshoe-shaped bowl within the Colchagua Valley, known for some of Chile's finest reds. The name Obliqua hints at the steep, slanting slopes where these vines grow, higher up than most Chilean Carménère. Altitude and stony soils give a wine with nervous energy and tension, quite unlike the softer, riper style the grape often shows. Carménère is blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and the palate is firm with chalky tannins, very good acidity and notes of raspberry, spice and cedar, leading to a persistent finish.

Decant before serving if drinking now, at around 17 degrees. Pair it with grilled lamb cutlets, beef with chimichurri or a mushroom stroganoff. The winery rates its ageing potential at up to 20 years.
