Description

Viña Ventisquero Queulat Carménère is a rich, spicy Chilean red from the Maipo Valley.

The Queulat range takes its name from Queulat National Park in Chilean Patagonia, famous for its hanging glacier, which echoes the winery's own name: ventisquero is Spanish for glacier. Carménère, long mistaken for Merlot in Chile's vineyards, is now the country's signature red grape, and here it is blended with a little Syrah and Petit Verdot. Deep violet in colour, it offers blackberry, cherry and plum with fine spice and chocolate, gentle tannins and good structure, and a long, harmonious finish.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with barbecued pork ribs, chilli con carne or capsicums stuffed with spiced beef. It is drinking well now and will hold for several years.
