Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Blanc 2015

The domaine's regional Chardonnay, made at Rully from a single plot called La Combe planted in the mid-1950s.

Bourgogne Blanc covers Chardonnay from across the region, and what separates one from another is the grower rather than the label. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial makes his at Rully, at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, where he took over from his father Raymond in 1994 and farms with his wife Céline. The holding runs to roughly seventeen to twenty hectares, worked organically until the certification was surrendered in 2016 after rain, hail and disease destroyed most of that year's crop. The fruit for this wine comes from La Combe, planted in 1955, so the vines are old for a wine at this level. Handling is the same as for the wines above it: hand picking, slow pressing, fermentation on indigenous yeasts in barrel, ageing on lees in mostly used wood and a few months in tank, then bottling with very little sulphur.

Best drunk in its first few years, while the freshness is at its peak. Serve at 10–12°C with oysters, grilled prawns or a green salad with goat's cheese.
