Description
Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Rouge is the domaine's regional Pinot Noir, made from young vines and outlying parcels around Rully.
Bourgogne Rouge is the broadest of Burgundy's appellations, and its quality rests almost entirely on who makes it. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial works from Rully at the northern edge of the Côte Chalonnaise and puts the same routine behind this wine as behind his village bottlings: hand picking, sorting, fermentation with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction. The fruit comes from younger vines and from parcels on the lighter soils at the fringe of the appellation. Ageing is in barrel for less than a year, almost all of it in used wood, and the wine is bottled with little intervention. What results is unforced and juicy, with the clarity of red fruit and the fine tannin that mark the house.
Made for early drinking, and none the worse for a slight chill. Serve at 14–16°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
