Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc 1er Cru Le Meix Cadot 2015

Le Meix Cadot is one of Rully's premier crus, and Dureuil-Janthial bottles it twice — this cuvée and a separate Vieilles Vignes from the oldest vines in the parcel.

Rully makes more white than red, and its premier crus sit on limestone and marl slopes that continue the geology of the Côte de Beaune southwards. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial, who took the family estate over in 1994 and runs it with his wife Céline, is generally treated as the reference point for the appellation; the couple farm around seventeen to twenty hectares, most of it in Rully, organically, having given up certification in 2016 after a ruinous season. The whites are picked by hand and pressed slowly, which carries plenty of solids into barrel, and they ferment on indigenous yeasts in barriques of which about a fifth are new. Ageing runs to a year or more in wood, then four to six months in tank before bottling, with very little sulphur used along the way.

Worth two or three years in bottle, and it will hold well beyond that. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a Comté-style cheese.
