Description
Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc 1er Cru Le Meix Cadot is a premier cru Chardonnay from a parcel of vines planted in the 1930s.
Rully makes more white than red, and its premier crus sit on limestone and marl slopes that continue the geology of the Côte de Beaune southwards into the Côte Chalonnaise. Le Meix Cadot is among the best regarded, and Vincent Dureuil-Janthial holds old vines there, which he bottles separately from the younger part of the parcel. The fruit is hand picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in barrel, where the wine then rests on its lees for a year or more with a modest share of new oak. Malolactic conversion is allowed to run. The style is precise rather than rich: firm acidity, a chalky texture and the concentration that comes from old vines and low yields.
Worth two or three years in bottle, and it will hold well beyond that. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a Comté-style cheese.
