Description
Maizières is a named Rully lieu-dit that Vincent Dureuil-Janthial bottles separately from his village white.
Rully, at the northern tip of the Côte Chalonnaise, is above all a white wine village, its Chardonnay grown on limestone and marl running on from the Côte de Beaune. The Dureuil family has farmed here for generations; Vincent took over from his father Raymond in 1994, at twenty-four, and works the estate with his wife Céline. Their holding runs to roughly seventeen to twenty hectares, most of it in Rully, farmed organically, though the certification lapsed in 2016 after a season of rain, hail and disease. Maizières is one of the named parcels kept apart. The fruit is hand picked and pressed slowly, then fermented on indigenous yeasts in barriques with around twenty per cent new oak, aged a year or more on lees in wood and a further four to six months in tank. Movements in the cellar follow the lunar calendar and sulphur additions are kept low.
Good on release and better after a couple of years. Serve at 10–12°C with grilled fish, chicken in cream or a soft goat's cheese.
