Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge 2015

This is the domaine's village Rully in red, blended from parcels across the commune and made with the same routine as the named-vineyard bottlings.

Rully lies at the top of the Côte Chalonnaise, where the limestone slopes of the Côte de Beaune continue south. It is better known for white wine, but the reds have improved a great deal, and Vincent Dureuil-Janthial has been central to that. He took the estate over from his father Raymond in 1994 and runs it with his wife Céline, farming around seventeen to twenty hectares, the bulk of it in Rully, organically; certification was given up in 2016 after a season of rain, hail and disease forced treatments. Picking is by hand and sorting is strict. The fruit is fully destemmed and given a cold maceration of eight to ten days before fermenting on indigenous yeasts in open vats, after which the wine spends time in barrel with a modest share of new oak, then several months in tank, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Drinks well from release and will hold for several years. Serve at 16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom and lentil braise.
