Description
Vincent Pinard Sancerre Flores is the domaine's estate white, drawn from parcels across Bué and raised almost entirely in large oak.
Sancerre runs across steep hills on the left bank of the upper Loire, where Sauvignon Blanc is planted on three soil types: the chalky Kimmeridgian marl called terres blanches, the shallow limestone gravel of the caillottes, and flinty silex nearest the river. Domaine Vincent Pinard is based in Bué, whose caillottes limestone slopes are among the appellation's most celebrated, and is now run by Vincent's sons Clément and Florent, who farm organically and pick by hand. Flores is the house's introductory white, assembled from a range of parcels rather than a single lieu-dit. Ninety-five per cent of the wine is raised in large oak and the balance in tank: the casks give a gentle oxygen exchange and a broader mid-palate without new-oak flavour, while the tank fraction keeps the finish crisp.
Dry and finely textured with real chalky grip, it suits shellfish, roast chicken and Loire goat cheeses; serve at around 10 to 11 degrees.
