Viñedo Chadwick 2020

Viñedo Chadwick is one of Chile's most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons, grown on a single vineyard at Puente Alto in the upper Maipo Valley.

The vineyard was planted in 1992 by Eduardo Chadwick on land that had been his father Alfonso's polo field, on alluvial terraces of the Maipo River at the foot of the Andes. Its stony, free-draining soils and cool mountain breezes give Cabernet Sauvignon of structure and freshness. The wine rose to international fame at the 2004 Berlin Tasting, where the 2000 vintage placed first in a blind line-up that included leading Bordeaux estates. It is made by the same family behind Errázuriz and Seña. 2020 was a warm, dry year, and the wine is deep ruby with red fruit, cacao, nutmeg and balsamic notes, cassis, dark chocolate and fine-grained, chalky tannins.

Decanting for an hour helps it unfold. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with grilled beef, lamb with chimichurri or aged Manchego; it has the depth and balance to cellar for well over a decade.
