Description
Voliero Rosso di Montalcino is a young-drinking Sangiovese from Andrea Cortonesi's second estate in Montalcino.
Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the south-east of the Montalcino zone, is where Andrea Cortonesi made his name at Uccelliera, and this is the separate label he runs beside it. Low yields, wild yeasts and clear fruit over extraction are the common thread. Rosso uses the same Sangiovese Grosso as Brunello, from younger vines or earlier-drinking parcels, with a shorter required ageing. It ferments on skins in temperature-controlled tanks, then spends about a year in large casks and used barriques. The vineyards are farmed sustainably.
Juicy and bright, with sour cherry, herbs and a fresh, dry finish. Ready now. Serve a little cool, 15-17C, with pasta al ragu, pizza, salumi or roast chicken.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
