Voyager Estate Block 6 Broadvale Chardonnay 2021

Voyager Estate Block 6 Broadvale Chardonnay is a clone 95 Chardonnay from one small high-density block in Margaret River.

Clone 95 on a gravelly rise at Broadvale, granite-rich soil over a stony clay base, planted in 2004 at high density and cropped for racy, low-sugar fruit. Hand-harvested bunches were pressed whole to tank and then racked to French oak barriques, where fermentation started on its own. Malolactic conversion is part of the plan for this block, softening naturally high acidity and adding flesh through the palate, and the wine spent nine months in barrel with the lees stirred every four weeks. The Block 5 wine gets identical treatment and turns out rounder; this one stays tight.

Citrus zest and white flowers, intense and drawn-out, with a saline chalky finish. Twelve degrees. Serve with scallops, Margaret River marron or a simple roast chicken; it has the acid to sit through a long meal.
