Voyager Estate Cabernets 2024

Voyager Estate Cabernets is a five-variety Margaret River red blend farmed organically.

The 2024 leans harder on Cabernet Sauvignon at 63 per cent, with Merlot at 23 and the balance Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Reasonable winter rain and an early budburst gave way to a long warm, dry stretch, so ripening was even and harvest wrapped up before Easter. Three organically farmed blocks on gravelly ground supply the Cabernet, two of Houghton clone and one of 125; the Merlot is Q45 and 181, adding flesh and sweetness. Parcels were destemmed with plenty of whole berries kept, mostly cold-soaked, then macerated ten to fifteen days before pressing to barriques with twenty per cent new oak and to concrete.

Bright and structured, blackcurrant and red plum with violet perfume, cedar and a fine tannin grip. Serve at 17 degrees. Roast lamb, beef skewers or a plate of aged gouda; drinkable now and better in five years.
