Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2021

Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc is a Margaret River Chenin Blanc from some of the region's oldest plantings.

Some of these Chenin vines went into the ground in 1978, which makes them among the oldest in Margaret River, a grape the region planted early and then largely set aside for Chardonnay. The soils are gravelly loam over stony clay, draining freely but holding enough moisture to keep the fruit balanced. Juice was chilled to 15 degrees and fermented mostly in stainless steel to protect the aromatics, then left six weeks on lees with regular stirring for texture. Chenin handled this way stays bright and a little textural, with just a slip of sweetness.

Clean and lively, tropical fruit and citrus with a slip of sweetness held in check by natural acidity. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Pork with apple, Vietnamese salads or a mild curry; it handles chilli better than most whites.
