Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2022

Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc is a Margaret River Chenin fermented in tank and seasoned puncheons.

Gravelly loam over stony clay is the ground, and the oldest vines on it date to 1978, since Margaret River has very little Chenin of that age left. Fruit went straight to press on arrival at the winery and the juice settled over two days before fermenting, part in stainless steel and part in older French puncheons. A short maturation followed, the parcels were blended, and the wine was bottled in June 2022. The point of the split is texture: the tank component keeps the fruit clean and direct, while the seasoned oak adds breadth without flavour.

Yellow apple and lemon with a chalky grip and a dry, faintly honeyed finish. Serve at 10 degrees. Roast pork, chicken with tarragon or a plate of washed-rind cheese; it is a better food wine than the price suggests.
