Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay 2025

Voyager Estate Coastal Chardonnay is a textural, cool-grown white from Margaret River.

Stevens Valley is a shallow fold of country near the Margaret River township where the Indian Ocean breathes inland most afternoons. Red-brown gravel sits over a stony clay subsoil that holds a little moisture and steadies the vines through summer. Fruit was pressed and settled overnight, then fermented in concrete vessels alongside new French oak, the concrete keeping the line clean and the barrels lending shape. Six months of maturation followed, with lees stirred back into suspension for breadth and malolactic fermentation taking the edge off the acidity. Gingin clone fruit supplies the grapefruit spine that runs through the middle.

Grapefruit and lemon meringue lead, with a creamy mid-palate and a dry, mineral close. Eleven degrees suits it. Good alongside barbecued prawns, a chicken and tarragon pie, or a wedge of Comte, and it has the weight to sit beside something richer than fish.
