Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot 2020

Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot is an organically grown, Cabernet-led blend from Margaret River.

Weightmans and Ullingers are the blocks behind this release, both on gravelly slopes that drain hard and keep vine vigour in check. Fruit is grown organically and sustainably, and the blend lands at 68 per cent Cabernet, 30 per cent Merlot and 2 per cent Cabernet Franc. Each parcel was destemmed without crushing and fermented separately across open, static and concrete vessels, worked twice a day by hand plunging or pump-over. Twelve months in French oak followed, then blending, a light filtration and bottling in April 2021. The second label is the estate's approachable range, built to drink young.

Cassis and red plum with a leafy lift and a savoury, gently gripping finish. Sixteen to eighteen degrees. It goes well with lamb backstrap, a beef and mushroom pie, or grilled eggplant with tahini. There is no need to decant it.
